Here's the final version of :iconwitch1978:'s request! It's her character, a young peasant girl accused of witchcraft. She's looking up at something hopeful in her last moments. Originally I did a happy version of her ( [link] ) and I wanted to do something in contrast to it.

This ended up being a fun experiment for me to play with a slightly different coloring technique and was a great excuse to do a realistic drawing.

Shocking news: in rural India an old woman was accused too, simply because she refused her daughter towed someone. The men beat her!

These witch hunts are shameless.

Hard to believe that since the medieval times there are still places that hold onto ideas like that :(

They are very old-fashioned.

Wow, it is really awesome ... besides everything i've written for the b/w version the colors give the whole image much more impact. What is really outstanding is the fire, especially how it affects the coloring of the skin and cloth (the more reddish/orange highlingts on the edges of her skin and cloth).

And her hair is beautiful as ever, and you've added the freckels and stake ... what is also very interesting how it works in connection to the more happy and peaceful first one. Even though she looks a little different it is still very clearly the same character, but the scene and also the complete color give it the direct opposit effect. Instead a blue sky and green grass there is now only fire and grey smoke. Instead the blue dress she wears now a torn brown sackcloth ... the skin is much more dark and somehow dirty (not so soft like on the other) ... only her hair and eyes remain the same, but her eyes and half open mouth really express her fear and desperation perfect that they look totally different ... The only thing i could imagine to make it even more sad, would be the addition of some tears ... but even as it is now, it is already very sad (especially when looking first at the happy one and now this) :tears:

Thank you so much for this wonderful artwork :huggle:

Do you know some good tutorials for coloring [Or have maybe written one on your own?]? (I wanted to try a bit coloring with my latest own sketch, but fail miserably, especially making these shading/highlights like you did on the hair is very hard for me [or i use the wrong tools/options/settings which is more likely ^^; ])

Thanks a lot! I did have a lot of fun with this one. It was great practice for adding in more colors when doing the skin/hair shading. I tried to add some tears but it ended up looking really strange against her skin, so I settled for the idea that she's cried herself out and maybe the fire and heat dried what was left up.

Two tutorials that I took ideas from and changed a bit are [link] and [link] . Though maybe at some point I can put something up about how I do it since I figured out a different way to do it.

Yes, tears are horrible hard to draw that they look right ... especially in color. Maybe she has also used all her tears up, considering what happend to her. And also thank you so much for the tutorials, i will try them out (but maybe first stick to b/w hair without much shading ^^; )
